Joining the Netroots’ Propaganda Machine
from DipPolitics added 9 June, 2008 at 03:35 PM

So Open Left and Daily Kos are doing this thing called searching for John McCain. The basic idea is to get a couple of hundred websites to write John McCain’s name a bunch of times and have each mention link to one of the following nine articles:
1–John McCain Votes to Filibuster Minimum Wage Hike
2–McCain housing policy shaped by lobbyist
3–Bush, McCain plug Social Security
4–McCain blasts Obama’s and Clinton’s attacks on NAFTA
5–McCain in NH: Would Be “Fine” To Keep Troops in Iraq for “A Hundred Years”
6–McCain: Bush right to veto kids health insurance expansion
7–Senate passes expanded GI bill despite Bush, McCain opposition
8–McCain says overturn the law that legalized abortion
9–McCain Defends Bush’s Iraq Strategy
The goal is to have these articles appear in the first 20 results of a John McCain Google search.
I’m a little skeptical of this kind of propaganda. It seems a little dishonest. Or maybe just unsportsmanlike-like. Plus, I’m not a big fan of Obama and Clinton’s attacks on NAFTA either.
On the other hand, if Obama loses, I wouldn’t want to be left wondering what would have happened if I had passed this John McCain thing on. So here goes my version (forgive me, Shakespeare):
This day is call’d the feast of McCain.
He that outlives this McCain, and comes safe home,
Will McCain a tip-toe when this McCain is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of McCain.
He that shall live this McCain, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his McCain,
And say, “To-morrow is Saint McCain.”
Then will he strip his McCain and show his McCain,
And say, “These wounds I had on McCain day.”
Old McCain forget; yet McCain shall be McCain,
But McCain remember, with McCain, What feats McCain did that day. Then McCain our McCain,
Familiar in his McCain as household McCain,
McCain the King, McCain, and McCain, McCain and McCain, McCain and McCain,
Be in their flowing cups freshly remember’d.
This story shall the good McCain teach his McCain;
And John McCain shall ne’er go by
From this McCain to the ending of the McCain,
But McCain in it shall be remember’d,
We few, we happy few, we band of McCain.
For McCain to-day that sheds his blood with McCain
Shall be my McCain ; be he ne’er so McCain,
This McCain shall McCain his McCain;
And McCain in England, now a-bed
Shall think McCain accurs’d McCain were not here,
And hold McCain manhoods cheap, whiles any McCain speaks
That fought with McCain upon Saint McCain day.
Please write McCain’s name in the comments, linking to one of the nine articles. Thanks!
